About Me
Abhirup Paul (Paul) grew up Cooch-Behar, West-Bengal, India. Having earned a bachelor’s degree in
biotechnology from Garden City University in Bangalore, India, he pursued for a master’s in
Biochemistry from REVA University in Bangalore, India. His undergraduate and graduate research
mostly focused computational genome-wide identification of proteins involved in various abiotic
stresses, and development of multi-epitope vaccines under the guidance of Dr. Neelam Mishra and Dr.
Anurag P. Srivastava. He then went on to work at Syngene International Limited, India where he
gained industrial experience on development and characterization of recombinant proteins and
therapeutic biologics. Now at The University of Texas at Austin, he’s pursing his Ph.D. in
Biochemistry. Having a core interest in understanding the structures, functions and mechanisms of
various macromolecular complexes, he joined the Newberry Lab in 2024. Outside the lab, Paul enjoys
listening to music, playing soccer and watching Formula 1.
